This lack of seal causes erratic idle as it leaks air into the pilot circuit. To test, jiggle the choke plunger knob a bit next time idle shoots up.
WebAll blipping does is raise the RPMs making your RPMs closer to what they would be in the next lower gear at the same speed. If your bike has a lot of engine braking this will make it less jarring.
